In early March 2020, during a teaching visit to the Sandberg Institute, I was invited to write a short piece for the SI’s Commissioned Critique series. As I was returning from Amsterdam, however, the pandemic was starting to engulf Europe. The piece, which was initially supposed to discuss issues relating to decoloniality within the institution, ended up becoming a discussion on the institution’s response to the pandemic, focusing particularly on the challenges experienced by students of color.
